New courses and updates from AWS Training and Certification in January 2023

Editor’s note: Each month, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Training and Certification releases new courses, learning resources, and certification updates. In January 2023, we released 20 digital training products on AWS Skill Builder, including a games-focused AWS Jam Journey for AWS Skill Builder subscribers, two new learning plans (with digital badges) for Solutions Architects and Game Developers, and updates to two AWS Certification exams.

New AWS Skill Builder subscription features

AWS Skill Builder Individual and Team subscriptions provide on-demand AWS Cloud training for individuals, organizations, and AWS Partners, with access to engaging, interactive experiences – when, where, and how they prefer to learn. Building on Skill Builder’s online learning center of 600+ free digital courses and learning plans, Skill Builder subscriptions offer 125+ AWS Builder Labs; role and industry-based gamified experiences; open-ended challenges designed to teach AWS best practices around security, migration, dev-ops, AI/ML, and more, as well as AWS Certification preparation. Team subscription is available in 19 countries, including newest countries Hong Kong and Taiwan as of January 31. Stay tuned for additional country availability throughout 2023.

AWS Jam Journey: Games

AWS Jam Journey provides a gamified, experiential learning path to build AWS skills with real-world challenges, available with both AWS Skill Builder Individual and Team subscriptions. AWS Jam Journey: Games is our latest offering, joining AWS Jam Journeys for security, networking, machine learning, and databases. In this Jam Journey, you’ll perform common tasks including deploying a game server, storing game data, and using AWS services including Amazon EC2, AWS CloudFormation, Amazon EBS, and Amazon EFS.

Fundamental-level

AWS Free Tier: Introduction to Offerings, AWS Free Tier: Introduction to Monitoring Services, and AWS Free Tier: Introduction to Managing Services comprise three 15-minute, fundamental-level digital courses helping you learn how to optimize your cloud spend and are designed for any learner, including developers, builders, architects, and individuals in finance or business roles. During these courses, you’ll learn about AWS tools to monitor and control spend, as well as strategies for using AWS products and services in more cost-efficient ways, walking away with the ability to achieve greater cost savings with AWS resources.

AWS Best Practices for Hybrid Cloud Adoption is a 60-minute, fundamental-level digital course designed for developers, builders, architects, individuals in finance and business roles, and others with an interest in hybrid cloud solutions. You’ll learn about best practices to create hybrid scenarios for cloud and on-premises contexts, and leave with the skills to develop a cloud migration program plan.

AWS Cloud Economics for Healthcare is a 90-minute, fundamental-level digital course designed for learners interested in optimizing their cloud spend in the context of the healthcare industry, including developers, builders, architects, and individuals in finance and business roles. During this course, you’ll learn about AWS tools to monitor and control spend, strategies for optimizing AWS products and services for healthcare applications, and understand how to achieve greater cost savings with AWS resources in the healthcare field.

Getting Stated with Amazon Textract is a 90-minute, fundamental-level digital course designed for software developers who build artificial intelligence-driven document processing applications. You’ll learn the use cases and benefits of Amazon Textract, walking away with the ability to extract text using Textract API from scanned documents.

Getting Started with AWS IoT SiteWise is a 60-minute, fundamental-level digital course designed for technical staff who collect, organize, and analyze industrial equipment data, including solutions architects, developers, data engineers, and system operations engineers. This course will provide an overview of AWS IoT SiteWise so you start using it.

Approach to Mainframe Migration and Modernization is a 60-minute, fundamental-level digital course intended for individuals in technical and business roles, including developers, solutions architects, and product owners. You’ll learn about the most common mainframe modernization drivers, AWS value proposition for mainframe workloads, and the key approaches to mainframe modernization using the three phases of migration (assess, mobilize, migrate and modernize).

Mainframe Modernization Patterns and Best Practices is a 60-minute, fundamental-level digital course intended for individuals in technical roles, including developers and solutions architects. You’ll learn to identify and apply patterns of the AWS Mainframe Modernization and understand best practices for successful mainframe modernization project implementation on AWS.

Getting Started with Application Load Balancer is a 60-minute, fundamental-level digital course designed for architects, cloud operators, and developers who design and deploy scalable cloud applications on AWS. You’ll learn technical concepts of Application Load Balancer, how it works, typical use cases, benefits and cost structure, and the ability to deploy, configure, and manage it.

Intermediate-level

Building Event-Driven Applications with Amazon EventBridge is a 60-minute, intermediate-level digital course designed for developers, solutions architects, and cloud practitioners who want to deploy event-driven applications and route events from event producers to event consumers. During this course, you’ll navigate practical scenarios demonstrating architecture, event routing, integration, and security of Amazon EventBridge, walking away with practical knowledge of real-world deployment scenarios.

Getting Started with AWS Observability is a four-part, five-and-a-half-hour intermediate-level digital course designed for DevOps and site reliability engineers who operate in the AWS Cloud. This course helps teams understand the core fundamentals of AWS Observability using AWS Cloud Operations Services (Management and Governance). After taking this course you’ll understand the three pillars of observability – Tracing, Monitoring and Logging. You’ll also review services available to help elevate your cloud operations practices, transforming them from a tactical day to day routine to creating an observability strategy that delivers business outcomes for your organization.

Data Modeling with Amazon ElastiCache for Redis is a 60-minute, intermediate-level digital course designed for individuals who work on building and managing data models for cache databases, such as database architects, data engineers, and database administrators. During the course, you’ll learn fundamental concepts on keys, data types, and time complexity for modeling with Amazon ElastiCache for Redis, walking away with the ability to identify the right modeling strategies for sample use cases.

Build with Amazon MemoryDB for Redis is a 60-minute, intermediate-level digital course designed for individuals who build and manage database solutions, including as solutions architects, data architects, database developers, data engineers, and IT professionals. During this course, you’ll learn to configure, launch, connect, deploy, and monitor an Amazon MemoryDB cluster, walking away with the ability to perform these tasks on the cluster.

Mainframe Workloads Fast Track to Agility is a 60-minute, intermediate-level digital course for individuals in technical and business roles, such as developers, solutions architects, and product owners. You’ll learn the overall path to evolve mainframe workloads into agile services, become familiar with the macroservices created by tool-based workload migrations, and further decompose them into microservices. Upon completion, you’ll be able recognize the benefits related to agility, cost reduction, and risk mitigation.

AWS Training – learning plans and digital badges

Two new learning plans, with associated digital badges, are now available on AWS Skill Builder.

The Solutions Architect Learning Plan is designed to help cloud architects and solutions architects design solutions on AWS using best practices, exposing you to architecting concepts relevant to AWS, including self-paced labs to build your skills. Upon completion of the online assessment in this learning plan, you can earn a new Architecting Digital Badge. This Learning Plan can also help prepare you for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate and AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification exams. For a limited time, the first 1,000 learners who pass the assessment can earn a 50% discounted certification voucher for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification exam.

The AWS for Games: Cloud Game Development Learning Plan is designed to help game developers, DevOps administrators, and cloud architects increase proficiency in cloud game development. You’ll learn how to build game development pipelines for distributed teams working anywhere in the world – across the game development pipeline, infrastructure, and networking that studios would normally run on-premise. Upon completion of the online assessment in this learning plan, you can earn a new Cloud Game Development Digital Badge.

AWS Training – Partner courses

AWS Partner: Mainframe Discovery Approach and Questions (Technical) is a 60-minute, fundamental-level digital course designed for technical individuals, such as solution architects, at AWS Partner organizations. You’ll learn how to gather required technical information for each modernization activity and how to use the prescribed discovery approach of Mainframe questions assessment in the AWS Assessment Tool.

AWS Certification – updates and exam preparation resources

Registration is now open for two updated AWS Certification exams: AWS Certified Developer – Associate and AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional exams. These updates reflect changes in trends, industry landscape, and work practices of cloud professionals.

Three new exam preparation courses are available to support your AWS Certification goals. Each explores the exam’s topic areas and helps you gauge your understanding of topics and concepts from each task statement grouped by exam domains. AWS Skill Builder subscribers can access enhanced exam prep materials.
