Data "Power" house

What do you like best about the product?
> Teradata is one of the most reliable RDBMS platforms available in the market
> Teradata is a power house when it comes to hosting a large data warehouse with greater storage and faster processing power
> Importing and exporting data is super easy with the teradata utilities
> Teradata has a strong admin setup which helps keep your data safe using a sound layer of access control
What do you dislike about the product?
> Teradata can get tangled up in multiple queries running simultaneously and result in a much delayed processing
> I think the UI is still backdated and desperately needs a next gen look and feel
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
> We have a large data warehouse that has been performing great for the past 4 years
> It serves as our organization's data back bone
> We have been able to use teradata to fuel our tableau data extracts and thus use it for data analysis
Recommendations to others considering the product:
> You should purchase teradata if you are looking for stability, scalability and reliability.

Easy use software!

What do you like best about the product?
Wow! There are so many things.
-> I guess I can start with MPP architecture. Yes, of course other database shave caught up to Teradata with that regard.
-> easy syntax. The syntax of Teradata is clean and pure. It is not as complicated as SQL Server or Oracle.
-> Used extensively for Datawarehousing and Business Intelligence Applications
-> Primary and Secondary Index for Data Storage and Data Retreival
-> Full table scanning is a real possibility in this table, without taking much time.
-> Fastload, Multiload capablities couples with t-pump for near real time operations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Having worked on this database for quite a few years, there is very little that I do not like about this product.
-> The fast load and multiload are currently a set of scripts. If this can be somehow made into a GUI that can enable easier load of data (like the fastload and multiload supported expressions in other ETL tools) it could be useful.
-> May be if at all there was anything to be worked on (like 1/10 chances if any changes would be made), may be the GUI (the visuals) could be made a little more appealing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have worked on more than a couple of projects dealing with Teradata Database. The best of the implementations was as a Data Driven Decision making application.
Benefits
-> Can load multiple sources of data
-> Unlike SQL Server or Oracle, there was no need to write PL/SQL. SQL DML was sufficient to suffice the requirement.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great Product. Depends on the application to be used. If the company needs massive data to be queries and reported on then go for Teradata. If the data volume is not too high this could be a costly expense.

Useful But Not for Amateur Users

What do you like best about the product?
The error messages give you obvious feedback on lines that need to be changed in order to make your query run.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is a heavy manual use application. There are no wizards that walk you through selecting data elements from various tables. You have to know exactly what you need and where it is sourced from in order to write an efficient query.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is helpful for pulling data quickly to do on-the-spot trending and pull dollar figures associated with certain criteria.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend purchasing a supplemental software that is more of a plug-and-play or wizard based application, as it may be more user friendly than working with Teradata directly.

Best data warehouse system present

What do you like best about the product?
Terracotta helps store enormous amounts of data smoothly and access them remotely without much hassles. We can even choose which set of users need access to what amounts of data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not friendly for data deep diving and in-depth big data analytics. Alternatives like Hadoop are much cheaper.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were facing issues in smoothly reporting the enormous amount of data generated by our users on a day-to-day basis. With Teradata, we are able to maintain our dashboards up-to-date across various categories and functions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Big data stored and read easily - go for it.

Big data simplified - Teradata

  • May 11, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Teradata is the tool to use when you have very huge databases to query. We were handling the largest retail data in the world and were facing issues in querying from this data. With teradata, we could query in SQL and get tome to time reports.

One more important thing is the data is well indexed which makes querying much faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
One major lacking is not being able to build complex models without having to query a lot. Most other systems started having this feature, Teradata needs to improve in this aspect. Also, small organisations cannot afford something like this - only those with deep pockets where querying TBs of data makes business impact, will have a positive impact.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a bit retailer, with multiple stores across various geographies. To track metrics for this kind of data could not have been possible if not for teradata.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely a go for companies wanting to make sense out of their of big data,
