I want to add or update my tax registration number (TRN) or business legal address on my AWS account.

Short description

You can update your TRN in the AWS Billing and Cost Management console. On the Tax Settings page, you can find your business legal address and TRN information, such as VAT number, VAT ID, GSTIN, or VAT registration number. If you're signed in as the payer account of an organization, then you can view and edit the tax registration numbers for all linked accounts.

AWS uses your TRN to determine the account's tax jurisdiction. If there's no TRN, or your country isn't available in the Tax Settings page, then AWS uses the following account information to determine the jurisdiction:

If you're not sure which country to choose for these fields, then consult your tax advisor.

If you're in Europe and receive special status or relief from VAT, then contact AWS Support. Attach applicable certificates that the tax authorities in your country issue. If you don't have a certificate, then provide information about your special status or relief in your case. Include specific sections of tax legislation that are applicable to your organization.

If you're in the United States, then see Does AWS charge US sales tax?

You can turn on tax settings inheritance to use your tax registration information for linked accounts in your organization.

Resolution

Add the tax registration number or business legal address for your account

Complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your account, and then open the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.
  2. From the navigation pane, choose Tax Settings.
  3. Choose Manage Tax Registration, and then choose Add.
  4. From the Country dropdown menu, select your country.
  5. Enter the required information, and then choose Update.
Note: The country that's associated with your tax identification number and the country that's associated with your business legal address must match.

Edit or update the tax registration number or business legal address for your account

Complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your account and open the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.
  2. From the navigation pane, choose Tax Settings.
  3. Open Manage Tax Registration, and then choose Edit.
Note: To edit the TRN and business legal address of multiple accounts in the consolidated bulling family at the same time, use an organization's payer account. Select each account that you want to update, open Manage Tax Registration, and then choose Edit. For accounts in China, you can't edit multiple accounts at the same time.
  4. From the Country dropdown menu, choose the country where your account resides for tax purposes.
Note: If a country isn't listed, then AWS doesn't collect tax registration for that country at this time.
  5. Enter the required information, and then choose Update.
Note: The country that's associated with your tax identification number and the country that's associated with your business legal address must match.

AWS reviews your tax registration numbers before they're applied to your account. For more information about tax and AWS, see Amazon Web Services tax help.
