What services are eligible for AWS Promotional Credit?
Eligible services can be found once credit has been redeemed into your account. If you require the use of a specific service, please indicate in your proposal so we can ensure that the service is credit-eligible.
-
There is a service on the list of eligible services that was not available at the time I received AWS Promotional Credit. Can it be added to my list?
No, we are unable to add additional services to the promotion once it is issued. You would be responsible for covering the charges.
-
Can I use the AWS Promotional Credit to purchase Reserved Instances (RIs)?
No. Reserved Instances require an upfront payment, with one to three years of commitment based on estimated usage, which AWS Promotional Credit are not designed to support.
-
Can I use AWS Promotional Credit to run Amazon Mechanical Turk?
AWS Promotional Credit cannot be used for Mechanical Turk.
-
Can I use AWS Promotional Credit to run Amazon EC2 Spot Instances?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage researchers to leverage Spot Instances. Spot Instances can significantly lower your computing costs for time-flexible, interruption-tolerant tasks. Spot prices are up to 90% lower than On Demand prices, so you can lower the cost of your interruption-tolerant tasks and, potentially, accelerate those applications when there are many Spot Instances available. For more details on Spot Instances, please refer to the Amazon EC2 Spot Instance page.
-
How do I account for the Spot Instances usage in the AWS Pricing Calculator?
Amazon EC2 Spot Instances allow you to name your own price for Amazon EC2 computing capacity. Therefore, the AWS Pricing Calculator doesn’t accommodate spot prices and only shows the results based on current On Demand Amazon EC2 prices. To make your proposal more competitive, we encourage you to lower your AWS Promotional Credit desired amount assuming that Spot Instances will be leveraged whenever appropriate.
