Simulation Compute Pricing

Pricing example 1: Simulation on a single instance

Suppose that you’re building a smart city simulation. You use only a single instance for your testing. The bill at the end of the month (22 days, assuming no weekend usage), using AWS SimSpace Weaver in US East (Ohio) would be calculated as follows.

Monthly simulation charges
Assume that you test your simulation code for 3 hours a day over the course of a month (22 days). You keep all your testing to one instance and pay the single instance price of $6.08/hour for that instance. Over the course of the month, you use 66 hours of compute. You would incur charges as detailed in the following table:

Usage type

Number of instances used per simulation

Simulation runtime per day in hours

Days per month

Compute hours

Price

Charge for the month

Instance hours = 1 * 3 * 22 =
66 hours

$6.08 per hour per instance

66 hours * $6.08/hour = $401.28

For the month, your bill will be $401.28 for the total number of compute hours used.

Pricing example 2: Simulation across 10 instances

Now you’re ready for full-scale production for your smart city. Continuing from Pricing example 1, you increase your scale to 10 instances. The bill at the end of the month (22 days, assuming no weekend usage), using AWS SimSpace Weaver in US East (Ohio) would be calculated as follows.

Monthly simulation charges
Assume that you run your 10-instance simulation continuously during business hours for 8 hours a day. Scaling across 10 instances, you still pay $6.08/hour for each of the 10 instances. Over the course of the month, you use 1,760 hours of compute. You would incur charges as detailed in the following table:

Usage type

Number of instances used per simulation

Simulation runtime per day in hours

Days per month

Compute hours

Price

Charge for the month

sim.c5.24xlarge

Instance hours = 10 * 8 * 22 = 1,760 hours

$6.08 per hour per instance

1,760 hours * $6.08/hour = $10,700.80

For the month, your bill will be $10,700.80 for the total number of compute hours used.

Snapshots

Snapshots are a feature you can use to save the current state of a live simulation. When a snapshot is taken, it is placed into an Amazon S3 bucket of your choosing. There is no cost to take a snapshot or start a new simulation from a snapshot. You simply pay for the Amazon S3 charges associated with storing your snapshot objects.
