AstraZeneca Breaks the Boundaries of Science to Deliver Life-changing Medicines, Powered by AWS
AstraZeneca discovers, develops, and commercializes prescription medicines in oncology and biopharmaceuticals, including in cardiovascular, respiratory, and immunology fields. It serves millions of patients across 145 countries and 70 markets.
In this video, Anna Berg Åsberg, global vice president R&D IT at AstraZeneca (AZ), shares how AZ is using data, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) in its ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death and protect the lives of patients suffering with heart failure and lung disease. To do so, data collection and analysis in multi-omics, image scans, and remote patient data is critical. AZ and Amazon Web Services (AWS) run hundreds of concurrent data science and ML projects. AZ has moved 25 petabytes of data across the AWS global network, generating 75 petabytes of intermediary data in the process, resulting in the ability to run 110 billion statistical tests in under 30 hours and gain insights that influence patient health.
Today, our Center of Genomics Research is on track to analyze up to 2 million whole genomes by 2026. The scale of our genome database is massive. And it’s really hard to manage a database at that scale, but we do it together with AWS.”
